During the initial consultation, we were impressed with her overall knowledge of tax law, her experience, attention to detail and prior experience having filed tax returns for clients that contained international components. She always welcomed our questions and was generous with her time. Our communication and visits were quite enjoyable every step of the way. As a small women-owned business, I was looking for a tax preparer who could help me understand the decisions being made for my business. After researching several options, I chose Anu based on her strong reviews and our initial conversation. Unfortunately, my experience did not reflect those reviews, and I feel it is important to share it so others can make an informed decision. The first issue occurred when an erroneous tax return was filed with the State of California under Anu’s firm before our taxes had even been prepared. The state informed us that this could potentially be fraud, either someone using the firm’s information or a mistaken filing from the firm itself. Because the source is difficult to determine, I do not place direct blame on Anu. However, resolving the issue has been an ongoing challenge for over a year. Anu did offer to assist after we discovered the filing originated from her firm, but by that point we had already been dealing with the matter for several months and were not comfortable granting power of attorney, though we appreciated the offer. The most frustrating issue arose when I asked about tax options related to a vehicle purchased for my business. The available approaches were not clearly discussed with me, and I only recently learned that the vehicle had been depreciated. This decision disqualifies me from taking the standard mileage deduction, which I had been tracking throughout the year. Had this been explained beforehand, I would not have agreed to the depreciation, as it significantly reduces the deductions available to me and adds ongoing bookkeeping complexity. Additionally, my new accountant identified that the vehicle had been both depreciated and claimed using the standard mileage deduction, which is not permitted. When I contacted Anu multiple times to clarify this, I received a general explanation of vehicle deduction methods but no clear response addressing the specific issue. Earlier in our engagement Anu was fairly responsive, but communication became more difficult over time. Many emails were hard to follow and often contained spelling errors or overly generic ChatGPT copied instructions that did not directly address my questions. While others may have had positive experiences, my experience has unfortunately resulted in significant time, stress, and long-term financial impact as I work to correct the issues.

Anu is very friendly, easygoing, and extremely helpful. She took the time to patiently explain everything in detail and gave me a lot of useful knowledge about my future business. I really appreciate how generous she is in sharing her expertise and guiding me through things I didn’t understand. If you have confusing or stressful tax problems, she is definitely the right person to help solve them. Highly recommended.
